Course Description

The Phlebotomy Technician Training program is a comprehensive course designed to teach  students the fundamental skills needed to draw blood, obtain specimens, transport specimens and observe infection prevention practices.  Phlebotomy Technicians can work in  a variety of patient care areas ranging from clinics, hospitals, emergency rooms/ center, labs  and more. The Phlebotomy Technician Program includes a combination of classroom  learning, laboratory practice with supervised hands-on clinical training. Graduates of this  program will be able to communicate with patients effectively, observing infection prevention techniques, obtain urine, blood and stool specimens, perform veni-punctures and  other point of care testing. Students will also learn how to perform basic first aid, CPR, vital  signs, and observing/ reporting. Graduates of this program may find entry-level employment  as a Phlebotomy Technician after successful completion of this course. A national  certification may be obtained after passing the NHA exam to become certified but is not  required for employment. 

Successful completion of the program is dependent upon the student completing a minimum  of 120 clock hours of instruction in the day or evening class. 

Our experienced instructors will guide you as you learn a variety of blood drawing techniques, safety standards, basic anatomy and physiology, and other areas such as:


  • HIPAA and Patient's Rights
  • Universal Precautions and Safety
  • Venipuncture and Vacutainers, Butterflies and Syringes
  • Finger and Heel Sticks
  • Blood and Blood Components
  • Medical Laboratory Terminology
  • Test Tubes-Uses, Additivies and Order of Draw
  • Professionalism
  • Special Procedures-Bleeding Times, Blood Cultures, Glucose Tolerance
  • Difficult Draws-Tricks of the Trade
